[info]justprompts: Here it's another Saturday night and...

Describe a time where you hid from someone or disguised whom you really were.

That wasn't the first time someone had took a swing at him for telling them he wouldn't take their case. As per usual, he had to hold back, wipe the blood from his nose and ask the man to leave. Dan or Dave. Douglas? Matt couldn't even remember his last name, which was either a result of indifference or being whacked upside the head twice, but the case he had immediately refused to be a part of had involved domestic abuse of some kind. Donald wasn't alone, of course. He had a few even less important men accompanying him, but really how many goons did it take to beat up a blind lawyer?

Matt flinched minutely when the next hit came, accepting the punch to the gut in a way that made him really wish he could just defend himself properly without it seeming suspicious. Eventually he just tried curling in on himself until the man was done raining blows on him. Every hit was like a painful remember of grade school. Of his father telling him not to defend himself. Not to lash out even when it was the smart thing to do. It builds character, Matty. It means you're better than them.

All things considered, speed dating sucks.

Even while he was patrolling and listening to his corner of the city for the sounds of criminal activities, Matt kept thinking that really he needed to just call Elektra. After dealing with a few small situations and minor skirmishes, Daredevil was irritated to find that the desire to do so lingered on.

He still didn't know what he could ultimately decide to do, but he wasn't sure that they could go back to what they were right away anyway. As close as they'd been back in school, Matt was pretty sure the years had chipped away at that connection to the point where preserving it wasn't an option. Some changes had to be allowed, and maybe that would just have to result in being friends, but at least that would be some definitive solution that Matt thought maybe he could learn to live with.

Once he swung back onto his own rooftop, Matt sighed heavily before moving back to his own apartment, knowing that all he was doing was delaying the inevitable. With that in mind, he got dressed again and fed the cat, worrying his fingers over the braille marks on his cell phone before hitting the speed dial.

It's early in the morning and I don't know what to do // It's early in the morning and I can't believe it's true // It's early in the morning and it's happening again
(Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – 'Midnight Man')

Working out early in the morning always gave Matt way too much time to think. Outside of getting together with Natasha on and off, Matt kept mostly to himself in the weeks following another stalemate confrontation with Frank. If Daredevil had to do jobs that involved the Punisher, he focused on getting the Punishee out of harm’s way instead of doing any more direct confrontations. It just made him angry. It just made him think of Elektra. In her case, he sometimes monitored her activities, but kept out or her way and left long before she got down to business. She was harder to stop and harder to deal with in a direct way. ... )

[info]justprompts: Ten things you need to do this week

This isn't very exciting, but I can't come up with answers for most of the other prompts. It's just too depressing and no one needs that. Least of all me.

So here's what I'm probably doing this week.

Ten things you need to do this week.
1. Work.
2. Take Rachel to the aquarium. If she wants to go.
3. Talk to Elektra.
4. [locked]Tour SHIELD[/locked]
5. Try speed-dating.
6. Ask Frank about something, but inevitably put that off for another week.
7. Take the kitten to the vet.
8. Take Molly to a movie? A haunted house? Something?
9. Call Natasha.
10. Pretend to care about football with Foggy at least once or twice.

Despite having a remarkably overactive sense of guilt, when Frank was working outside of New York City, Matt felt less responsible for the other man's personal death toll. Really, he didn't have to feel that responsible if the killings happened outside of Manhattan, but if Frank was another area of New York or --ideally-- another state, then his actions were completely outside of Matt's immediate control.

Hoping for Frank to go far away didn't change the fact that he was, in fact, currently in Matt's neighborhood. To say Matt wasn't looking forward to confronting the Punisher as Daredevil for the first time since the whole stray bullet incident would have been an understatement, but power and responsibility... yadda yadda yadda. Sometimes Matt wished he'd gotten more powers and less responsibility though.

He sighed heavily before using his cane to swing over and down, through a glass window and into an abandoned apartment within shooting distance of some mafia lieutenant's penthouse.

It's weird. They keep coming back.
